Is it any wonder?

"What's friendship, when all's done, but the giving and taking of wounds?...Gentle Jesu, Mary's son, be thine the wounds that heal our wounding. Press they bloody scars to ours that thy dear blood may flow in us and cleanse our sin. Be thou in us and we in thee that thou may be a woundless one at last."
[Godric - Frederick Buechner]
------------------------------------------

"for 27 years I've been trying
to believe and confide in
different people I found

some of them got closer than others
and some wouldn't even bother
and then you came around

I didn't really know what to call you
you didn't know me at all
but I was happy to explain

I never really knew how to move you
so I tried to intrude through
the little holes in your veins
and I saw you

but that's not an invitation!
that's all I get
if this is communication
I disconnect
I've seen you, I know you, but I don't know
how to connect
so I disconnect

you always seem to know where to find me
and I'm still here behind you
in the corner of your eye

I'll never really learn how to love you
but I know that I love you
through the hole in the sky
where I see you

and that's not an invitation!
that's all I get
if this is communication
I disconnect
I've seen you, I know you
but I don't know
how to connect
so I disconnect

well, this is an invitation!
it's not a threat
if you want communication
that's what you get
I'm talking and talking
but I don't know
how to connect

and I hold
a record for being patient
with your kind of hesitation"

------------------------------------------

I always thought that I knew
I'd always have the right to
Be living in the kingdom of the good and true
And so on
But now I think I was wrong
And you were laughing along
And now I look a fool for thinking you were on, my side

Is it any wonder that I'm tired?
Is it any wonder that I feel uptight?
Is it any wonder I don't know what's right?

Sometimes
It's hard to know where I stand
It's hard to know where I am
Or maybe it's a puzzle I don't understand
Sometimes
I get the feeling that I'm
Stranded in the wrong time
Where love is just a lyric in children's rhyme, a soundbite

Is it any wonder that I'm tired?
Is it any wonder that I feel uptight?
Is it any wonder I don't know what's right?
Oh these days
After all the misery made
Is it any wonder that I feel afraid?
Is it any wonder that I feel betrayed?

Nothing left beside this old cathedral
Just the sad lonely spires
How do you make it right?

Oh but you try
Is it any wonder that I'm tired?
Is it any wonder that I feel uptight?
Is it any wonder I don't know what's right?
Oh these days
After all the misery made
Is it any wonder that I feel afraid?
Is it any wonder that I feel betrayed?
[keane]
------------------------------------------

I do not love you the way I did when we met
There are secrets and arguments that I haven't finished yet
It's only that grace has outlived our regrets
We're still here
There are times meant for breaking
And words to ignore
And a bent to our souls
When our skin is at war
If leaving were freedom
Well, we'd both walk right out of that door
But maybe we can stay

"I like the sweet life and the silence but it's the storm that I believe in."

"Though He slay me, I will hope in Him."
- [Job 13:15a]

"Batter my heart, three-person'd God ; for you
As yet but knock ; breathe, shine, and seek to mend ;
That I may rise, and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force, to break, blow, burn, and make me new.
I, like an usurp'd town, to another due,
Labour to admit you, but O, to no end.
Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend,
But is captived, and proves weak or untrue.
Yet dearly I love you, and would be loved fain,
But am betroth'd unto your enemy ;
Divorce me, untie, or break that knot again,
Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me."

- [John Donne, "Holy Sonnet XIV"]
-----------------------------------------------

"oh it's healing - bang bang bang
I can hear your cannons call
you've been aiming at my land
your hungry hammer is falling

and if you want me I'm your country

I'm an angel bored like hell
and you're a devil meaning well
you steal my lines and you strike me dumb
come raise your flag upon me

and if you want me I'm your country
if you win me I'm forever - oh yeah!

'cause you're the storm that I've been needing
and all this peace has been deceiving
I like the sweet life and the silence
but it's the storm that I believe in

come and conquer and drop your bombs
cross my borders and kill the calm
bear your fangs and burn my wings
I hear bullets singing

and if you want me I'm your country
if you win me I'm forever - oh yeah!

'cause you're the storm that I've been needing
and all this peace has been deceiving
I need some wind to get me sailing
so it's the storm that I believe in

you fill my heart, you keep me breathing
'cause you're the storm that I believe in"

- [The Cardigans, "You're the Storm"]

The Award For the World's Biggest Douche Goes To...

So, I'm late on this, but wow...

So Michael J. Fox has done political campaigning for Stem-cell research proponent candidates in both parties! Yes, Rush, it must surely be a ploy. As usual you're always right. Rush Limbaugh I congratulate you on being the "World's Biggest Douche." And also, Rush, congratulations on giving McCaskill enough press to get elected and tip the Senate control by the one vote needed to give them a majority. It's bad when even Karl Rove wants you to shut up. Please, please keep running your mouth.

A New Day

Checks and Balances Restored. Monologue ended. Bush left impotent. Rummy resigns. Haggard ousted [or outed...either way he won't be whispering in the president's ear any longer]. Foley exposed. Delay politically dead. Santorum 'santorumed' [haha, thanks chris]. Incumbents relieved of their "duties". House and Senate with a Democratic majority. The world breathes and trepidly hopes the new guys are maybe just a little better the old ones, and that K-Fed and Rummy find each other. John Bolton, you're next.

At this point, it must be staged...

New addition to my Kanye Collection:

http://matthewryanward.blogspot.com/2006/02/back-by-popular-demand.html

Kanye West, left, complains alongside winners Justice and Simian at the MTV Europe Music Awards at The Bella Centre, Copenhagen, Denmark, Thursday Nov. 2, 2006. West apparently was so disappointed at not winning for Best Video that he crashed the stage Thursday in Copenhagen when the award was being presented to Justice and Simian for "We Are Your Friends." In a tirade riddled with expletives, West said he should have won the prize for his video "Touch The Sky," because it "cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it. I was jumping across canyons."
